Head-on Washington D.C. metro train crash lead to personal injury and wrongful death of civilians.
Our personal injury attorneys know personal injury and wrongful death can happen at anytime when you are commuting on the tracks or on the road. Car accidents can cause personal injury like whiplash or spinal cord injuries.
Riding the train may save on gas and emissions, but the possibility of personal injury or wrongful death is still present. The exact cause of the train accident is unknown. One train was stopped while waiting for a train ahead to clear a passenger platform when a third train rear-ended the train that was stopped.
According to officials, the train accident happened on a curved portion of the track. It is possible the stopped train was at a point of the curve where the third train could not see it and rammed into it.
During rush hour, trains run automatically. So to prevent an accident, the driver of a train would have to first override the automatic system and then apply the brakes to prevent a train accident that causes personal injury or wrongful death.
“We will find out what happened here, what caused this, and put whatever resources that are necessary to fix it so that it won’t happen again,” Metro General Manager John Catoe said.
Riding the train is a widely used alternative to bumper-to-bumper traffic that plagues many Americans during rush hour. Just because it is an alternative, does not mean it is a safer alternative. A train accident is just as likely as a car accident in the wrong situation.
Our personal injury lawyers urge commuters to be safe no matter how they get to and from places (i.e. work, school, etc.) If you choose to use the road, always buckle up and drive at safe speeds using the right rules to the road. Because public transportation is used by many people, transit officials need to do everything they can to make train rides safe train rides.
