4th Fatal Fatal Teen Car Accident In San Diego This Month

The trend involving fatal teenage auto accidents continues to rise in San Diego County.

In the first weekend of November, Gerardo Chacon lost his life when the driver of the car he was in spun the vehicle out of control and the car crashed through a bus stop terminal on East Vista Way just past Mason Road in Vista.

Our firm’s car accident lawyers know how tragic it is to lose a loved one, especially if its a teenager.  Teenage drivers have the tendency to get into a higher number of car accidents because they are not as skilled as veteran drivers, and they often lack adequate experience.  Unfortunately, many times those teenage car accidents cause personal injury to those involved.  In the worst cases, such as this one, they can cause wrongful death.

Chacon, a 17-year-old junior at Vista High School, was riding in the passenger seat of Reyes Miranda’s 1990 Ford Mustang, with Miranda behind the wheel.  The car started to drift to the right, sliding against the guardrail before veering into the other lane, and plowing through the bus stop.  The Mustang rolled over several times before the car accident was over.

What most likely caused Chacon to lose his life was that he was not buckled into his safety belt at the time of the auto accident, so his body was flung from the car when it spun along the ground.  Miranda, who was operating her vehicle without a license, experienced serveral personal injuries before being arrested on suspicion of drunk driving (DUI).

This is the fourth incident of a San Diego teen from North County getting their life cut short by a fatal auto accident in a little over a month’s time.  The other three teens — Michael Pyper, Alex Capozza, and William Wardrip — all lost their lives due to reckless driving with inexperienced motorists.

Our car accident lawyers want all parents, and their teenage drivers, to know the rules of the road and practice safe driving at all times.  This includes always using a seatbelt and making sure that you never get in a car with a driver who is impaired by alcohol or drugs.

When you are young, you have your future wide open.  Don’t cut it short with mistakes that could be avoided.
