By now, Toyota’s historic recall of vehicles with unintended acceleration has become common knowledge to the public, but the problems continue to mount for the auto giant.
Last week, Prius owners were asked to return their vehicles for possible design defects that could cause unwanted speeding and this week Toyota Corollas have been called into question as possibly having steering problems that could lead to future auto accidents, as chronicled by Bloomberg News.

The San Diego car accident attorneys who work at our firm have already seen the pain and suffering that has been caused by Toyota’s defective floormats and gas pedals. The story of four wrongful deaths that garnished national attention hits too close to home because it involves an off-duty CHP officer and his family losing their lives in Santee when their Lexus ES 350 sedan would not slow down.
Now, 80 complaints against 2009 and 2010 Toyota Corollas have been filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) due to issues with the steering wheel. A spokeswoman from the agency said that the NHTSA is reviewing all of the notices and will conduct a safety defect investigation, which is standard procedure.
The Wall Street Journal has documented cases overseas of Corollas having minor unintended acceleration problems, with one London owner claiming that he’s now wary of the brand after a recently purchased Toyota appeared to be going faster than he wanted it to.
Our car accident attorneys believe that preventing serious San Diego car accidents is our number one goal. We want to educate the public about safety issues so that you do not find yourself with a personal injury, which might require you to find assistance for paying all of your medical bills.
Research a car before you buy it — not just the history of the car, but the history of the manufacturer. Toyota’s problems are alarming because the company prides itself on a record of safety. Don’t be afraid to ask the tough questions from a pushy salesman or desperate seller. Your safety matters most and you should know as much as you can before you purchase a vehicle.
