Alpine Truck Accident Leaves Chula Vista Man Dead

When a crash happens on the road, the bigger vehicle usually does the most damage.  This is precisely why truck accidents are bad news for the drivers and passengers of cars that collide with big-rig trucks.

In a sad story from the San Diego Union Tribune, there was a fatal truck accident in Alpine that killed a Chula Vista man.  Ruben Dario Fernandez was on his way to work at Viejas Casino when his wrongful death occurred due to a run-in with a large truck.

Our Alpine truck accident attorneys have heard this story before.  A box truck was heading east on I-8 at approximately 40 mph with its hazard lights on when Fernandez’s 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer approached from behind, speeding at 85 mph.  Such a speed prevented Fernandez from stopping in time and he rear-ended the truck, sending his Mitsubishi off the freeway and stopping only after hitting a large rock at the bottom of an embankment.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) representatives said that Fernandez was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the truck accident, which might have saved his life.  But in the same way that DUI accidents are completely preventable, this wrongful death might have been avoided if Fernandez had buckled up.

Were he to have survived this truck accident, it is possible that he could’ve had physical disabilities for the rest of his life.

The message that our San Diego truck accident attorneys want to drive home every time they hear about a serious San Diego car accident like this is: buckle up your seatbelt.  Just going around the corner?  Buckle up your seatbelt!  Going on a long car trip?  Safety belt should be on no matter what.  While the majority of Californians comply with state law and buckle up, the CHP states that half of the on-road fatalities that happen annually involved passengers who did not wear their seatbelts.

Don’t become a statistic, become safer.
