A 16-year-old boy from Santa Fe Christian High School is dead after a fatal car accident that occurred with his friends and a newly licensed driver at the wheel.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office released a report that claimed William Wardrip, who was riding in a sports utility vehicle with his friends, was ejected from the backseat when the car accident occurred on San Dieguito Road near Circa del Norte about 3:30 a.m. on October 25th, 2009.

William Wardrip, 16, was killed in a car accident involving a newly licensed teen driver (Via San Diego Union Tribune).
Our car accident lawyers know that teenage drivers have a better chance of causing car crashes because they are less experienced with the rules of the road and how to handle a themselves at the helm of a vehicle. They can also become easily distracted, leaving themselves open to make mistakes on the road.
Freshly minted motorists under the age of 18 are issued provisional licenses for the first year of driving, with the condition that they do not carry passengers younger than 20 unless a parent or guardian is also in the car. Also, they are restricted from driving a car between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Wardrip experienced a wrongful death because it was later discovered that he was the only one in the auto accident who was not wearing his seatbelt. The young driver — who had just earned his driver’s license — was traveling west in the vehicle when he lost control on a curve, crossed into the eastbound lane, hit a curb and rolled several times. No drugs or alcohol have been connected to the car accident and three other passengers, all high school students, were taken to a nearby hospital to be examined for potential personal injuries.
If you have a teenager who is about to get their license to drive, make sure that they know all the laws and restrictions of the road, especially since they are under age. And it could not hurt to be a nagging parent and remind them about the importance of safety belts as well.
Our Rancho Santa Fe car accident lawyers are sorry that tragedy has struck again in a fatal California auto accident, but William’s death will not have been in vain if we — as a society — can learn from this.
