When a trolley crashes into anything, usually the results are tragic and life changing. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case when commuters in downtown San Diego walked away fairly unscathed when a U.S. postal service van slammed into the side of a northbound trolley, causing a car accident at the intersection of G street and Park Boulevard.
There were no wrongful deaths due to the crash, which our firm’s car accident lawyers are very happy to report, and only two people are known to have experienced personal injuries from the accident. Typically, in cases such as this one, lives are lost and catastrophic injuries are the result.
Passengers aboard the public transportation vehicle stated that the trolley had the greenlight, traveling north up Park Boulevard, and that’s when a driver behind the wheel of a U.S. Postal Service van entered the intersection. As the rest of the traffic on G street paused, the van hit the trolley, causing a side-impact accident.

Inside the trolley car, a woman who was standing up suffered an injury, as did a man in a wheelchair, who may have knocked his head against the window. It is currently unknown about whether he sustained a traumatic brain injury or not, but both he and the woman who stood up were transported to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.
The driver of the mail van was not hurt in the accident.
Police are still investigating why the collision happened in the first place, which could stem from any number of possibilities, including running a red light or being distracted while behind the wheel. Until the police report comes back, no one can say for sure.
While it is unfortunate that two people had to get injured in this crash, the car accident attorneys who work at our firm are relieved that no one lost their life in this accident. Too often cases such as these usually end in tragedy and it should be a lesson for all of us that accidents can happen at any point in time on the road and you don’t have to be in a car to get hurt.
