No Helmet Leads To Fatal Bicycle Accident In La Jolla

Many people prefer bicycles to get around as opposed to automobiles.  They promote good health, provide a means of exercise, and you can even take them on public transportation.

Unfortunately for some riders, bicycles can cause some serious injuries to the rider if they happen to get in a bicycle accident.

Alan Nash, 44, was riding in the La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego when he lost control of his bike and fell.  Nash hit his head on the street after the bicycle accident while he was making a right turn on El Paseo Grande at about 1:10 p.m.

Our bicycle accident attorneys know bicycle accidents are just as likely as car accidents or any other type of automobile accident.  What makes bicycle accidents worse is the fact that bicycles don’t have anywhere near the amount of safety features as cars (i.e. crumple zones & seat belts).

The only thing a bicyclist has to protect himself is their helmet.  A bicycle helmet can prevent traumatic brain injuries that may occur if a rider falls on his head.  Because the brain is one big mass of tissue, it can be hurt very easily.

While the cause of this accident is unknown, Nash wasn’t wearing his helmet at the time of the bicycle accident.  Doctors diagnosed him with a closed-head injury, and on Sunday, Nash was pronounced brain dead.

Our La Jolla accident lawyers want to remind all riders that wearing a helmet can save your life.  You may be only going for a casual ride for a little exercise, but you never know what can happen.  Could Nash’s life have been saved if he was wearing his helmet?  No one really knows, but it certainly could’ve definitely helped.
