Del Dio Highway was shutdown on the morning of November 4, 2009, after a carjacker stole a vehicle after being part of an earlier three car auto accident.
The car crash happened round 6:40 a.m. at Date Lane where three cars slammed into each other, causing at least one of the automobiles to flip over, and closing both North and South-bound lanes on the highway for a least two hours. California Highway Patrol reports that after the initial crash occurred, a man, who was bleeding from a head injury, brandished a knife at another motorist and took got in their vehicle.
The driver of the car trasnported the suspect west for close to 10 miles before dropping him off along the side of the road near Rancho Santa Fe and heading returning to the scene of the car crash to alert the authorities.
Our firm’s car accident lawyers know that when you get into an auto accident, you are shaken up and quite possibly injured. To have that happen and then have someone point a knife in your face is a lot for one person to handle. If you find yourself in this most unenviable of positions, it’s recommended that you don’t try to fight your carjacker. Instead, it is always best to let police chase cars that have been stolen.
The description of this carjacker was somewhere between 35 and 45 years old, Latino, and close to six-feet tall, with short black hair and a mustache. At the time of the auto accident, the suspect was wearing a brown sweater and black pants. If you have seen this man or have any information of his whereabouts, immediately contact the local authorities and the California Highway Patrol so that he can be brought to justice for his crimes.
