Riverside Chief Of Police Investigated For Impaired Driving

Our car accident lawyers know that drunk driving or any kind of impaired driving can be dangerous and potentially fatal to not only the driver and passenger(s) of one car, but other drivers and passengers on the road as well.

What happens when this act is allegedly committed by someone who enforces that law?

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has begun an investigation that alleges that Russ Leach, the chief of police of Riverside, California was driving while impaired.  The investigation is also looking into why Riverside police didn’t put those suspicions in their initial reports.

According to the CHP, officers stopped Leach in his damaged car a few miles from where he crashed into a fire hydrant.  He wasn’t hurt in the car accident that happened at about 3 a.m. on Tuesday, but Leach’s car, a Chrysler 300, had two blown tires and some fender damage.  It is unclear if those officers noticed any impairment on Leach.

Obviously, these allegations need to be investigated to get the whole story.  There is no definitive proof that Leach was driving while impaired.  If Leach was driving while impaired then he could have put his life — as well as the lives of the citizens he swore to protect — in danger by causing a car accident.

Our car accident lawyers want to remind everyone that if you have been drinking or are possibly trying to drive under the influence of prescribed drugs or illegal drugs, don’t drive.  It isn’t worth the risk no matter who you are.
