Chris Henry's Fiancée Speaks About Truck Accident

The truck accident that killed Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry was one of the more tragic events of the 2009 NFL season.  Henry was only 26, and after getting into early trouble because of his conduct, he seemed to be getting his life back together.

On December 16, Henry fell out of the back of a truck that his fiancée was driving causing serious blunt-force trauma.  In an interview with ESPN’s John Barr, Henry’s fiancée, Loleini Tonga finally gave her accounts of what happened.

Our wrongful death lawyers commented on initial reports about the truck accident that caused Henry’s death when the story broke on December 17.  Details of the story were somewhat up in the air, and we have been waiting for other accounts of what happened to come to the surface.

Henry’s death proves that you never know what can happen if you’re driving a car or a passenger.  If there are any safety precautions you can take to prevent a car accident causing injuries or a wrongful death, take them.  The number one safety precaution for all drivers: wear your seat belt.

Henry wasn’t as fortunate because he was in the bed of the pickup truck.  Some outlets reported that Henry fell out of the truck, while other reports claimed Henry jumped out of the bed.  In the interview, Tonga claims Henry jumped, rather than fell, from the back of the truck.

“He jumped,” Tonga said.  “He jumped.  He jumped from the back of the car.”

When asked how fast she was going, Tonga didn’t give a specific speed, but she said she wasn’t going too fast because the road she was driving on was in a 35-mph zone.

The traffic accident that is still under investigation came after a domestic dispute at their Charlotte home.  Henry chased after Tonga after she left the house and jumped into the bed of the truck.  Henry’s quick jump from the car happened so fast, she thought Henry knew what he was doing.

“I think he thought maybe he was going to land.  He was going to land right,” Tonga said.

Our wrongful death attorneys believe it’s important for all sides of a story to come out.  When it comes to the legal system, getting as many sides as possible helps a dark moment come into the light with more clarity.
