Morgan Freeman in Serious Automobile Accident

Early August of 2008, the 71 year old actor Morgan Freeman and a female friend, Demaris Meyer, were involved in a serious car accident on a rural Mississippi Delta highway.   The car had left the highway and overturned twice, before landing upright in a ditch.

Fortunately, both Freeman and Meyer were wearing their seat belts.  Freeman and Meyer were taken out of his car after rescuers used the jaws-of-life on his 1997 Nissan Maxima.  They were then airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee, with Morgan Freeman suffering a broken arm and elbow.

The auto accident lawyers at our firm know the importance of wearing a seat belt, especially in a serious automobile accident.  Freeman and Meyer could have been more seriously injured if they had each not been wearing seat belts.  That is why, as car accident attorneys, we recommend that all automobile drivers and passengers always wear their seat belts.

The hospital where they were taken for medical treatment after the automobile accident is commonly known as “The Med” and serves patients within 150 miles of Memphis.  Doctors operated on Freeman to repair nerve damage in his arm and shoulder a couple days after the automobile accident.

Morgan Freeman has starred in many major motion picture films including Million Dollar Baby, and was awarded an Academy Award for the role.  He also endorsed President-Elect Barack Obama during his campaign.  He was born in Memphis, Tennessee, but was raised and still lives in the state of Mississippi.

We are greatly relieved to see that Freeman and Meyer chose to take car accident prevention safety seriously by wearing their seat belts.  Hopefully if more high-profile celebrities make good decisions such as accident prevention measures like using their seat belt, others can follow and encourage others to follow their example .

Our firm’s experienced automobile accident attorneys know how much pain and suffering is involved for anybody to deal with a loved one’s injury or wrongful death after a serious car accident.  Please remember to take proper safety accident prevention measures by always wear a seat belt, so it can protect you and your loved ones in the event of a car crash.
