Chargers defensive lineman Jamal Williams was arrested early Super Bowl Sunday on February 1, 2009 on suspicion of drunk driving after he was speeding down state Route 94, the California Highway Patrol said. CHP pulled the 32-year old nose tackle’s 2008 Bentley over at about 1:30 a.m. near Home Avenue.
This all comes less than a month after another Charger, receiver Vincent Jackson, was arrested early Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). A CHP Officer stopped Jackson after witnessing him brake abruptly after he was seen speeding his car and weaving his 2008 GMC Sierra on state Route 52 near Interstate 805.
Our firm’s drunk-driving accident attorneys know that usually, partying after the football season is over — albeit, legally partying — is an excuse reserved for just the Super Bowl Champions. Somebody must not have told that to the San Diego Chargers, who apparently feel they are above the law.
Both players were taken into custody at San Diego County Jail, and both were released. Jackson was already on probation for a previous DUI arrest. He is, however, looking forward to proving his innocence and — according to a statement he released through the team — he does not believe that he will be charged with a crime.

Chargers defensive lineman Jamal Williams was stopped for drunk driving and speeding.

Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson was arrested for DUI.
“I look forward to clearing my name and proving my innocence,” Jackson said at the time.
As car accident attorneys, we are flat-out disgusted by this lack of responsibility shown by these two professional athletes. Drunk-driving (DUI) causes fatal accidents every day. Young kids look up to star athletes like Williams and Jackson, and what are their recent actions showing them? They are saying that it is okay to break the law if you are a rich athlete. Well, that is completely wrong. These two men could have caused an auto accident or, at worst, a wrongful death.
The experienced drunk-driving accident attorneys at our firm feel bad that high profile models make such reckless choices, when we know that there are numerous ways to prevent DUI accidents for occurring, even by NFL pros.
