When there is a problem with the roads or transportation system in the Golden State, you can lodge a complaint with Caltrans. But what if Caltrans is actually the one responsible for your property damage after an auto accident?
In a report by 10News, a Caltrans driver was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) when he crashed into several cars and a Julian residence. Amazingly, no personal injuries or wrongful deaths were reported as a result of the accident.

Around 1 p.m. on February 12, 2010, a flatbed truck attempted to make a turn in the road and as he did, a tractor he was hauling flew off the truck, crashing into Paul Thomas’ apartment before crack the asphalt at the base of the building. Thomas had just finished remodeling his home and was out to get some more furnishings when the truck accident occurred, an errand that ended up saving his life. Chistopher Trachta, 49, kept driving after the tractor flew out of the flatbed, only to careen into a pickup truck and then continue to drive the wrong-way into one coming traffic two times before coming to a stop a short distance from Winola Farms Marketplace.
Trachta was charged by policy on suspicion of drunk driving, and Caltrans has subsequently put him on a mandatory leave of absence pending the outcome of his DUI charges. This is not the first time on-the-job drivers have been accused of drinking and driving on company time. In fact, future law might hold companies liable if they have employees who drive drunk while on the clock.
