Former Yankees Hero Charged In Fatal Drunk Driving Car Crash

Jim Leyritz, a World Series hero for the Yankees in 1996, faces manslaughter and drunken driving charges in connection with a fatal car accident that caused the wrongful death of a 30-year-old woman.  In this particular case, Leyritz claims that the woman’s death could not have been prevented even though he was intoxicated and drunk driving.

The San Diego car accident attorneys at our firm believe that car crashes can be an emotionally traumatic incident in your life, causing personal injuries, physical disabilities, and even wrongful death.  All of these injuries will most likely force you to seek out help in order to pay the high medical bills associated with them.

“There was no possibility of me avoiding that crash with all of my senses,” Leyritz said.  “A mother was taken away from her kids.  I can’t change that.  But I didn’t do it.  The accident did.  And that accident wasn’t my fault.”

Prosecutors disagree, and Leyritz will have a chance to present his case Sept. 14, when he is scheduled to face trial in connection with a fatal crash in December 2007.  The police said Leyritz was drunk when he ran a red light in his sport utility vehicle and crashed into a car driven by 30-year-old Fredia Ann Veitch in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The authorities said Veitch, who was thrown from her car and later died, had been drinking.

Our firm’s car accident lawyers know that drunk-driving is a top cause of car accidents, and when drivers run red lights they often cause wrongful deaths.  We believe that everyone should drive safely and accordingly to the rules of the road, because that way we can prevent drunk-driving incidents in the the future.
