Marine Killed In Miramar Motorcycle Accident Identified

Officials for the military released the name of a Marine whose death was caused by a motorcycle accident near the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

Cape Coral, Florida resident Sgt. Michael Martins, 23, was stationed at Miramar and was fatally injured on November 6, 2009 in a motorcycle accident with a Lexus.  The Lexus made a left turn into the path of Martins’ oncoming Yamaha motorcycle on Miramar Road near Camino Ruiz.

Our motorcycle accident lawyers know motorcycle riders accept certain risks when they decide they prefer two wheels to four.  No matter how skilled you may be at riding your motorcycle, it is both inevitable and unpredictable that motorcycle accidents happen.

When motorcycle crashes do happen, the likelihood of catastrophic injuries as well as wrongful death is high.  Motorcycles don’t have the same safety features that cars have (i.e. crumple zones, air bags and seat belts).  All a motorcyclist has to rely on is their helmet and their body armor — if they are even wearing either of those.

Martins was actually wearing his helmet at the time of the motorcycle accident, and immediately after, witnesses to the motorcycle crash performed CPR.  Paramedics took over for them after they arrived on the scene, but Martins was pronounced dead at a hospital a short while later.

Martins was assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 11, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing as an intelligence specialist.  The decorated Marine had received commendations including an Iraq Campaign Medal and a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.  Such a shame that one of our nation’s finest was killed.

When you hear about soldiers dying, you immediately think about situations where soldiers were killed in combat.  Our motorcycle accident attorneys know there are as many ways to die in the U.S. during peace time as there are in other countries in times of war.  Always be careful when you’re riding a motorcycle.
