Bicycle Accident Injures Bicyclist And Policeman

A motorcycle police officer and another bicyclist were involved in a bicycle accident in the Hillcrest section of San Diego on Tuesday at about 2:40 p.m., a San Diego Police Department spokesman said.

The bicycle accident happened in the 1000 block of University Avenue.  Both riders suffered from minor injuries.

Our car accident attorneys in San Diego want to remind our friends riding on two wheels to be careful when riding to get somewhere or riding to get a little exercise.  Cars and other automobiles are persuaded to “share the road” with bicyclists, but that doesn’t stop bicycle accidents from happening.

If you get into a bicycle accident, serious personal injury or wrongful death becomes very possible because bicycles do not have the safety features that other automobiles do.  For example, cars have crumple zones and seat belts.  All a bicyclist or motorcyclist has is a helmet, elbow and knee pads.  Sure, that may prevent some serious injuries but can any safety feature be truly full-proof?

Reports do not indicate what safety measures the bicyclist and motorcycle officer had, but the bicyclist was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital nearby for treatments of cuts, scrapes and bruises.  The officer sustained contusions, minor abrasions that may leave permanent scaring and complained of lower back pain.

Our firm’s San Diego car accident lawyers want to make a point to bicyclists and all motorists to be aware of everyone and everything that’s on the street with you.  Share the road with your brothers and sisters on two wheels.  Give them the space they need to get where they need to go.  Remember that the bike lane is not a turn lane.  Helpful tips like these make streets safer for everyone no matter how many axles you ride on.
