States Fight Over Medical Bills From Medicaid Expansion

There have been new proposals in the House and Senate which would in effect expand the Medicaid program to cover at least a third of the nation’s 46 million uninsured.

Medicaid, the health-care program for eligible individuals and families with low incomes and resources who cannot pay large amounts of medical bills if suffering from a personal injury, is funded through a combination of federal and state tax money.

Our firm’s San Diego personal injury attorneys believe that those who are not able to afford health insurance should be able to obtain insurance.  Accidents like car accidents that cause personal injury happen everyday and if you are not insured due to your low income should you have to suffer more pain and suffering because you are uninsured?

Many states are worried they would get stuck with a big part of the medical bills if this legislation is put into action. While the state taxes will increase to provide Medicaid to more individuals, the amount of money will be less than the amount states have to pay when uninsured individuals receive medical treatment for a personal injury.

Imagine how hard it might be to pay back six figures worth of medical bills when you have no insurance and a loved one or you suffered a personal injury.

Our personal injury attorneys in San Diego know that if you suffer an injury in a car accident and are not insured, you will have to pay back high medical bills.  As a matter of fact, our personal injury lawyers have a helpful resource page if you want help getting your medical bills paid.

That is why you should always hire an experienced personal injury law firm to be on your side. We can get you the medical help and, in some cases, can establish a medical lien (which will allow you to receive your medical care and not have to pay a dime until after your personal injury claim has been settled).
