Doctors’ research and treatment decisions may be influenced by payments from drug companies and medical-device makers, thus causing medical malpractice to occur.
Our firm has personal injury attorneys in San Diego who specialize in medical malpractice and know that any negligence by health-care providers can cause personal injury and wrongful death. Medical malpractice — on the part of doctors — can cause any number of personal injuries, including spinal cord injuries, paralysis, and physical disabilities.
Dr. Jeffrey Wang of UCLA did not inform the school of $459,500 he was paid by companies from 2004 through 2007. Among the companies that paid him were Medtronic Inc. (the world’s largest medical technology company), DePuy (unit of Johnson & Johnson that designs, manufactures, markets and distributes products for reconstructing damaged or diseased joints and for repairing and reconstructing traumatic skeletal injuries) and finally FzioMed Inc.
State university researchers in California are required to disclose any financial ties to nongovernmental entities funding their work. Failure to report a financial interest can result in civil liability for medical malpractice, fines and university discipline.
“Medtronic is not in a position to know whether Dr. Wang honored his respective employer’s conflict-of-interest requirements,” a Medtronic spokeswoman said, adding that Dr. Wang’s agreement has expired and has “not been renewed at this time.”

Suppose a loved one or you suffered a personal injury and the doctor used a medical device on you that had not been properly investigated for harmful effects. What if this device caused you more personal injury or even a wrongful death?
As personal injury attorneys that specialize in medical malpractice, we believe that doctors should be held accountable for their wrongdoings, should they cause needless personal injury.
