Suppose a loved one or you went into surgery to cure a certain ailment only to find out that the doctor — you trusted with your life – wasn’t certified to do the procedure. Would you want the doctor to be held accountable for any medical malpractice that directly led to your discomfort?
Our firm’s personal injury lawyers in San Diego know that many mistakes by health-care providers can result in personal injury and wrongful death. If you experience medical malpractice by your doctors, it can be an emotionally traumatic incident in your life. Thankfully, there is something that you can do about it.

Tummy tuck caused personal injury resulting in a near $4 million medical malpractice settlement.
When Debbie Daniels was scheduled to undergo a hysterectomy in 2003, her doctor suggested he do a “tummy tuck” in addition to her medical treatment.
But what the obstetrician/gynecologist didn’t tell her was that he’d never been trained to perform the procedure that gets rid of excess skin and fat and had been kicked off the staff of another hospital for doing tummy tucks without proper credentials — or that he did the procedure unlike any other doctor, according to court records.
Two days after Dr. David Lee Grimes cut Daniels open and stitched her back up, her wound burst, leaving a basketball-sized hole in her belly 7 to 8 inches deep, one of her lawyers said. She had to undergo emergency surgery — the first of many — and be placed in a medically induced coma for a month.
Left permanently disabled, Daniels (then a 39-year-old respiratory therapist in Paducah) sued her doctor. An expert witness hired by his insurance company told the carrier that she was “appalled” by what Grimes did — that it was “inexcusable and indefensible,” according to internal documents the company was later forced to disclose.
Our San Diego personal injury attorneys worry about potential injuries for those that put their trust in the hands of a licensed medical professional that would do such a thing.
If you can’t trust your doctor to perform the correct procedure then who can you trust?
