Is it safe to assume that at least six customers aren’t “lovin’ it”?
Six products liability lawsuits have been filed against an Illinois McDonald’s restaurant after dining in the restaurant led to contraction of hepatitis A. Those six join the other four products liability lawsuits that had already been filed.
Hepatitis A is an infectious disease of the liver transmitted through the fecal-oral route (the fecal particles of one to the mouth of someone else). The disease is most commonly contracted from contaminated food or water sources.

This Illinois McDonald's restaurant has had ten products liability claims filed against it for contamination of food with hepatitis A.
Our firm’s San Diego personal injury lawyers know there is great possibility of products liability claims due to food-borne illnesses especially at high volume restaurants like McDonald’s.
- Is the food being delivered contaminant free?
- Are employees thoroughly washing their hands after they use the restroom?
- Is food being stored and cooked properly before serving?
These are all questions to think about when you decide to put food in your body. It’s also important to note that you’re not 100% safe in your own kitchen. Sometimes, you make mistakes in your own house that a restaurant chef or employee would make.
In Illinois, the state Department of Health closed the McDonald’s from July 15-17, and while closed, the restaurant was completely scrubbed and cleaned. Vaccines were offered to the people who were infected by the hepatitis A to help with symptoms of nausea and diarrhea.
The lawyers handling this case said that each person is seeking more than $50,000 in damages – the minimum requirement for this type of lawsuit in Illinois.
