Teenage and preteen girls account for most of the 65 reported illnesses from an E. coli outbreak that has spanned 29 states. At least 25 people have been hospitalized, including seven with a severe personal injury that can cause kidney failure.
There have been no wrongful deaths reported, and no state has yet seen more than five cases, signaling that the outbreak is more scattered.
