A product liability recall of Miley Cyrus’ jewelry brand has been put into effect in Walmarts across the country, according to a report in TMZ. The recall was done in regards to concerns of high levels of cadmium, which can be toxic if ingested.

Cadmium is a toxic metal that, while not dangerous if it is only worn outside the body, can cause bone softening, kidney failure, and other personal injuries if it enters the body’s digestive track or blood stream. The worry is that children will suck, bite, or swallow the jewelry and unknowingly poison themselves.
The Associated Press conducted a nationwide test on the jewelry line sold exclusively at Walmart and found that many of the products tested positive for high amounts of cadmium. Walmart allegedly knew of these risks in February, 2010, but continued to sell them up until this week.
In response to the toxic levels found in the jewelry, Walmart released a statement saying the products were “designed for and marketed to older audiences” and “not intended for children.” The statement went on to say that sale of the Miley Cyruis jewelry brand will be put on hold “while we investigate its compliance with our children’s jewelry standard.”
