Dearborn Family Files Wrongful Death Claim Against Resort

The family of a 3-year-old child who drowned at a water park in Sandusky, Ohio is suing a water resort in connection with the wrongful death.

Hassan Itani drowned on August 2, 2009 at the Kalahari Resort in a 3-foot-deep kiddie pool in an outdoor portion of the resort.  According to the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Toledo, Hassan was not wearing a life vest that was required by resort policies, and the park didn’t have enough lifeguards monitoring activity.

Our wrongful death lawyers unfortunately know that children’s injuries and wrongful deaths are more likely to occur than personal injury to adults.  From a trauma standpoint, children have the potential to sustain more because of their smaller bodies, and there is only so much trauma a child can take.  Because that’s true, parents and other adults should be mindful if there is the possibility for a child to get hurt.

A child’s drowning may sound like a rare occurrence, but there are thousands of children that go to city pools and beaches every day.  The three foot pool Hassan entered had more than 50 people in it, and Hassan’s mother simply lost sight of him.  That can be expected at a high volume resort like that or others such as Disneyland or any other major theme park.

Our wrongful death lawyers believe parents need to be extra careful when they are in situations where their children can get hurt or potentially die.  Resorts like these can be a wonderful way to create memories for families, but events like this are those types of memories no family wants to have.
