Fatal Hit-And-Run Suspect Arrested By SDPD

There is no such thing as the perfect crime and make no mistake: a hit-and-run car accident is a crime.  Just because you drive away, that does not mean that you leave your troubles or the trouble you caused for others in the accident behind you.

According to 10News in San Diego, Bruce Hanson, 51, was arrested on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter for the hit-and-run accident that killed Alejandra Vazquez, 35, who was parked near the I-805 and Market Street interchange.  Hanson fled the crash and was arrested about 2.5 miles from the scene less than 48 hours later.

Our car accident attorneys in San Diego feel that there is no excuse for a hit-and-run accident, because whether a wrongful death occurred or not, you still must take responsibility for the wreckage that was created.  Even if it was just property damage and no personal injuries were the result, never drive away — it will only make matters worse.

Vasquez had parked her car near the ramp from I-805 to Market street when a speeding metallic blue SUV crashed into her, with Vasquez’s mother watching the entire incident.  The SUV drove off, only to be reported the next morning at the Otay Mesa wrecking yard, with blood on the impact point and the keys left on the dash board, but missing its license plates.

A worker at the wrecking yard had seen a story on the news about the fatal accident and noticed that a vehicle on the grounds matched the description from the report.  San Diego police officers were notified and later arrested Hanson for suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run after forensic evidence determined that the SUV found in the junk yard had been used in the fatal crash.

The car accident attorneys at our firm want to remind you that while it is never certain when or where an accident will happen, you can do certain things in the event of a hit-and-run.  Use your cell phone camera to try and take pictures of the car fleeing the scene, get witness reports from individuals and business around the crash site, and write down the license plate number.

Of course, never put yourself in harms way to get this evidence, but it can help in tracking down a hit-and-run suspect and bringing them to justice.
