Judge Ok's $24M Chrysler Wrongful Death Settlement

The same judge overseeing the bankruptcy of the Chrysler corporation has approved a $24 million wrongful death settlement of a man hit by a Dodge pickup truck.

This wrongful death settlement was awarded after a Los Angeles Superior Court jury awarded $55 million in damages to the family of Richard Mraz in 2007.  His family claimed that Chrysler failed to fix and warn people about a transmission problem that gave drivers and pedestrians the appearance the trucks were in park when they were actually inbetween gears.

Our wrongful death lawyers know there are many potential design defects that can cause fatal car accidents every year.  With all of the new technology being used in cars these days, the possibility of malfunctioning can increase.

The phrase “buyer beware” means more to car buyers than any other type of buyer.  Cars are made of different metals compared to their older counterparts.  Added technologies like GPS and voice-recognition software make drivers’ lives easier but more susceptible to driver distractions.

Having an older car can lead to even more problems because car parts wear down over time and can break down at the wrong time causing a car accident.  Nowadays, drivers are more likely to suffer serious injuries like whiplash or traumatic brain injuries, so making sure you can be as safe as possible should be your first priority when buying a car.

The fatal transmission flaw caused the 38-year-old Mraz to suffer fatal head injuries when he was hit by a Dodge pick-up truck.  Attorneys for Mraz said Chrysler had over 1,000 “park-to-reverse” complaints involving the Dodge Dakotas made from 1988-2003.

In March of 2007, jurors ruled that DaimlerChrysler was negligent in the truck’s overall design as well as failing to warn consumers or issue a recall for the vehicle.  Our wrongful death lawyers believe this lack of distributing information shouldn’t have happened.  If car companies (or any other companies for that matter) have products that can cause potential harm, those issues need to be dealt with to prevent injuries and wrongful death.

To avoid a wrongful death after experiencing a car accident, make sure that you are given the best medical treatment possible and ask your doctors questions in regards to proceedures and medications before you sign off on your treatment.
