Washington D.C. Metro is preparing for a number of wrongful death lawsuits from the train accident that caused the nine wrongful deaths of nine passengers in late June.

This train crash that occurred on June 22 could lead to any number of personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits.
The first wrongful death lawsuit was filed in federal court two days after the train crash. Five others have since been filed, with one wrongful death claim seeking a settlement as high as $25 million in damages.
Legal damages could be in the tens of millions of dollars, and if negligence is proved, punitive damages can be awarded bringing the total to hundreds of millions easily.
Our wrongful death lawyers believe the Washington D.C. transit authority should be held responsible for the train crash and pay wrongful death settlements if they are found responsible for what happened.
Even if you get into an accident like this one and your wrongful death doesn’t happen, you may have personal injuries that need medical treatment. If you have questions about getting medical treatment, our personal injury lawyers have created a resource page that can answer medical treatment questions like finding a good doctor in your area or getting a California Patient’s Guide.
An electrical glitch in the system that tracks the presence of trains on railways — a design defect — has been rumored to be the cause of the train accident in June, but a personal injury lawyer in Virginia Beach said the fact a component was malfunctioning is not a concern anymore because the transit authorities in D.C. should not have put the trains on the tracks anyway.
Lawsuits related to the train accident cite a number of reasons including the inexperience of the train operator, Jeanice McMillan. Reasons for McMillan’s liability include her lack of training as well as the claim the train was traveling too fast.
None of the wrongful death lawsuits, however, will make progress until a federal investigation uncovers the actual cause of the train crash.
As wrongful death attorneys, we understand that wrongful death claims are likely for this train accident. We also believe that fraudulent claims are also likely, so it is important for lawyers and plaintiffs to see that this tragedy should not be seen as a way to cash in. Only those truly affected should file wrongful death claims.
