A district court in Utah awarded a wrongful death settlement of over $4 million to the widow and children of a man who was in a fatal car accident in 2006.
Richard Kunzler’s family claimed in a lawsuit that the state Department of Transportation and subcontractors working on a bridge near Spanish Fork, Utah (south of Salt Lake City) failed to post appropriate signs warning motorists about traffic delays, which led to the fatal automobile accident.

Kunzler’s attorney said Kunzler came over the crest of a hill on July 18, 2006 when the driver in front of him saw stopped cars and slammed on his brakes. Kunzler tried to swerve to miss but crashed. He died about two weeks later.
