The Nissan and Infiniti car maker companies have issued a recall of about 143,000 cars because of a risk of corrosion that can cause a tire-pressure monitor malfunction.

This products liability recall is geographically targeted because it only pertains to cold weather states: Connecticut, Iowa, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Rhode Island, West Virginia, Washington D.C., Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Wisconsin.

According to the recall, road salt used to melt snow on streets and highways can cause corrosion which can cause the tire-pressure monitor to malfunction giving the driver a false sense of how much pressure is in their tires.  The vehicles recalled are:

  • 2008-2010 Infiniti M35 and M45
  • 2009 Nissan Cube
  • 2009 Nissan Murano
  • 2008 Nissan Rogue

The car accident attorneys at our San Diego firm know automobiles have many parts that can malfunction and cause car accidents.  Because there are so many cars affected by this problem, it is important to correct these problems to make travel safer.  This is especially true in cold weather states where driving can be much more hazardous because of snow on the ground.

This is not the only geographic recall issued.

Toyota and General Motors are recalling about 106,000 vehicles including the 2009-10 Matrix and the Pontiac Vibe as well as the 2008-2009 Scion xDs.  Toyota said in extreme cold the intake manifold suction port for the brake vacuum can become blocked by ice buildup during high-speed driving.  This can cause more pressure needing to be applied to brakes in order to stop.

Recalls are happening to motorcycles, too.

BMW is recalling the 2009 K 1300 GT and K 1300 S motorcycles.  BMW says the handlebars controlling the turn signals and the emergency engine off/start function could fail.  Ducati is recalling 750 motorcycles (2009 1198 S and 1098 R as well as the 2010 F1098S Streetfighter) because of a faulty fuel hose can get loose.

People rely on their automobile or motorcycle to get around, but they also rely on the safety of those vehicles.  Our firm’s San Diego car accident attorneys believe car and motorcycle makers need to be careful and conduct all the proper tests to make sure the products they sell don’t cause injuries that can change someone’s life.

When an automobile accident does happen you will want to make sure that you know where and how to get the best medical treatment possible for your personal injuries.
