The alleged drunk driver that caused a car accident on New Year’s Day leading to the wrongful death of a pregnant mother is scheduled to be sentenced on May 5, 2010.

Our car accident lawyers have seen the tragic results of the irresponsibility of a drunk driver.  Drunk driving causes thousands of car accidents every year, and this case is especially tragic because it involves the wrongful death of a woman and her unborn child.

Man who caused drunk driving car accident to be sentenced today.

The man, 40, pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, two counts of DUI causing injury and DUI with a blood-alcohol content of .08 or higher in the drunk driving car accident that caused the death of a woman and her unborn son.

The man faces up to 16 years in prison in connection to the car accident.

A Prosecutor told the judge in January that when tests were done after the crash, the man had a blood-alcohol level of .25 percent,  more than three times the legal limit.

His Chevrolet SUV crashed into a parked Mitsubishi coupe that the woman was standing near after a tire blew on the Mitsubishi on Interstate 805 just south of Home Avenue.  The woman, her friend and the friend’s cousin were all waiting in another sedan behind the disabled Mitsubishi when the car accident happened.

Our firm’s San Diego car accident lawyers know that drunk-driving will never stop, but we need to find better ways to prevent it.  When the man is released from prison, it might be a good idea to indefinitely revoke his license and make sure that he never drives a car again.

Driving is a luxury, not a right, and when you abuse it, you might lose it.
