When there is a major product liability recall to prevent children’s injuries or deaths from that product, our firm’s personal injury attorneys in San Diego are here to make sure that you and your family are safe.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced in a press release that a series of children’s hooded vests and jackets are being recalled for product liability concerns surrounding drawstrings that “pose strangulation and entanglement hazards,” according to CPSC’s website.

CPSC recalls hooded jackets with drawstring product liability hazards.

No personal injuries or wrongful deaths have been reported in conjunction with the drawstring jackets sold at Burlington Coat Factory and other retailers from February, 2008 through September, 2009.  The were sold for $14 and in sizes ranging from 2T-14.

The sweatshirts are black and navy blue Rim Rocka hoodies with grey, white, or red trim.  They have a large number stitched on front, with drawstrings treaded through the hoods and an emblem of “RR” (“Rim Rocka”) on the left shoulder.

Girls’ Pelle Pelle hooded jackets with “Soda Club pelle pelle” embroidered on the top of the sweatshirt are also included in this recall.  Those sweatshirts are white or pink, with bottle cap prints on the clothing and the same hazardous drawstring at the waist.

These jackets, sweatshirts, and vests are in violation of guidelines set by the CPSC in 1996, which were implemented to stop children from strangling or choking themselves by wrapping the drawstrings around their neck.  Consumers are urged to immediately remove these drawstrings or return the item to the place of purchase for a refund or credit.
