The New York Daily News issued a report that a series of dishwashers made by Maytag have been recalled due to design defects with possible fire hazards, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Household appliances are prone to causing personal injuries because of the electricity used.  In some cases, the size of these appliances comes into play if one falls on you.  Our personal injury attorneys realize that no product is made perfectly, but when companies find design defects, it’s important that they issue a recall to correct the problem.

Maytag dishwashers recalled after design defects reveal potential fire hazards.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced with Maytag that about 1.7 million dishwashers have been named in a products liability recall after fire hazards became a possibility due to defects discovered.  According to details, 12 complaints about elements to heat the appliance failed causing fires and property damage to the dishwasher.

Dishwashers made by Maytag and sold under the brands Maytag, Jenn-Air, Magic Chef, Crosley, Amana, Admiral and Performa by Maytag are all named in the recall.  They have black, white, stainless steel, silver and bisque (a pinkish brown color) front panels with the names printed on the front.

The defective machines were made between February 2006 and April 2010 and sold for between $250 and $900.  The CPSC advises that if you own one of them, stop using immediately and disconnect the electric supply by shutting off the fuse or circuit breaker controlling it.

Maytag offers free at-home repair for defective dishwashers or rebates if you decide to buy a whole new machine.  For complete details of the recall, you can call Maytag at (800) 544-5513 or visit Maytag’s Web site.
