According to details from KTLA, there is something in various boxes of cereal that is not necessarily part of a complete breakfast as the Kellogg Company is voluntarily issuing a products liability recall after some consumers became sick from eating their products.

Our personal injury lawyers know that a lot of people enjoy a nice bowl of cereal with their breakfast.  Millions of pounds are produced every day leading to millions distributed in the United States and billions worldwide.  For that reason, one small design defect can taint an entire batch.

Kellogg Company issues cereal recall caused by design defect in box.

Kellogg is recalling about 28 million boxes of Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Honey Smacks and Fruit Loops cereals.  The recall is a result of a strange flavor and smell coming from the liner of the packages according to company spokesmen on Friday June 25, 2010.

The contaminated cereal was distributed throughout the United States — Canadian products aren’t affected — and started showing up in stores in late March.  Boxes with the letters “KN” following the use-by date are included in the products liability recall.

The cereal company said about 20 people complained about their cereals smelling and tasting waxy, metallic or soaplike.  Five people reported personal injuries and illness resulting in nausea and vomiting.

Kellogg is conducting an investigation into what substance on the liners is causing the illnesses and is giving refunds to customers in the meantime.  You can get one of those coupons by calling 1-888-801-4163.

There is much belief that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and many consumers choose cereal to start their breakfast with.  Preferably, you’d want a cereal that isn’t tainted with an unknown substance, so if you believe you have one of the boxes named in the recall, throw it away because food poisoning is never part of the food pyramid.
