If you have been injured in a car accident in San Diego, you already know how devastating a collision can be. Between hospital bills, missed work, and the pain arising from serious injuries, a car accident can prove to be one of the most stressful times in anyone’s life. That’s why it’s never been as important to take the necessary precautions to reduce your risk of a car accident, and one of the best ways to help prevent an injury accident is to stay focused on the road.

As personal injury lawyers in San Diego, we’ve seen numerous car accident cases that arise from distracted driving.

Modern cars are made with all the bells and whistles today – from internet browsing to GPS, Wi-Fi, and phone dialing, today’s cars are equipped with all the latest creature comforts. And while the technology certainly earns its “cool factor,” it may prove to be unsafe on our roadways.

While many drivers are already aware of the consequences associated with distracted driving, there are others who need the intervention of car manufacturers to keep our roads safer. At least, that’s what federal officials said Thursday after recommending that carmakers disable in-cabin technology while the vehicle is in motion.

New guidelines from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may change the way drivers use technology while driving. If passed, the new guidelines would include recommendations on how to make in-cabin technology less time-consuming and overall less distracting, which may include a provision that prevents ancillary technology from being enabled while driving.

“We recognize that vehicle manufacturers want to build vehicles that include the tools and conveniences expected by today’s American drivers,” an NHTSA Administrator said. “The guidelines we’re proposing would offer real-world guidance to automakers to help them develop electronic devices that provide features consumers want without disrupting a driver’s attention or sacrificing safety.”

Of course, the use of any device while driving can prove to be dangerous. Other safety officials recommend not using any kind of technology or device while driving, no matter how safe or benign you think it may be.

Distracted driving can result in injury

There’s no doubt that distracted driving can cause serious injury should a car accident occur as a result. As a car accident attorney in San Diego, I’ve seen numerous accidents that could have been potentially avoided if the driver focused solely on the road ahead.
