If the police ever want to pull you over, please do so or you will make legal matters worse for you as well as increase the risk for other drivers to get into an auto accident.  One Atwater man had other ideas when police attempted to pull him over.

The driver — a 38-year-old man — was driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) and then led police in a chase with his Chevrolet truck only to get into a car accident with another truck in addition to an auto accident with a sport utility vehicle (SUV) on Saturday, February 7, 2009.

Our firm’s San Diego car accident lawyers believe that there is no reason to get behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated — that, in fact, there are more ways to prevent DUI accidents than there are excuses for being in one, especially because the pose the treat of wrongful death to everyone out on the road.

All three cars were totaled, and four people were taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley for treatment.

It all began just before 4 p.m. when police received a call from a resident near Concannon Boulevard.  The caller thought that a truck appeared to be casing the neighborhood.  An officer saw the red Chevy pickup truck and followed it.  After watching the truck make a few minor traffic violations, the officer tried to pull the truck over.

After the car accidents,  the driver got out of his automobile and began walking away from officers and refused to listen to their instructions.  All the madness finally ended when an officer deployed a nonlethal stun gun to subdue the driver.

The man was arrested on suspicion of evading an officer with disregard for public safety, driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, possession of a stolen vehicle — the pickup was reported stolen  — and resisting arrest.  In addition to these transgressions, the man was also wanted on two outstanding warrants — one for vandalism and another for disturbing the peace.

Our firm’s experienced San Diego auto accident attorneys know that certain people should never be allowed on to the road.  Some people just do not take into account other drivers’ safety and cause more car accidents than drivers that do account for safety.

Drivers like this should never again be allowed to get behind the wheel of a car.  His DUI and subsequent police chase caused four people to be injured, people that would have been perfectly fine if not for the automobile accident that he caused.

Wouldn’t the roads be safer without drivers like this man on the road?
