Toyota recently announced a 20,000 vehicle recall that will affect owners of some Avalon, Camry, Sienna, Highlander and Lexus models. Reports indicate a potential fuel leak could affect the risk of vehicle fires and owners are urged to fix the recall at a participating dealership.

Reports indicate that a fuel delivery pipe in the engine compartment could have insufficient wielding, increasing the risk of fire. The increased risk only applies to vehicles sold with its 2GR-FE V6 engine.

As of today’s date, there have been no known fires. Fortunately, no personal injury or fatalities have occurred as a result of the manufacturing defect.

Most owners should have received a notification of the recall in the mail. However, in the event of a lost notification, owners can contact their local Toyota dealership to fix the problem free of charge.

Because recalls can be a huge safety issue, federal regulators have mandated recall notices. Check with your dealership and update your address if you have not received the notification to ensure you receive future recall notifications.

“Toyota said that when owners take their cars back to the dealers, mechanics will inspect the fuel delivery pipe,” the report noted, “If it was produced by the supplier responsible for the bad welds, it will be replaced, the company said. Toyota did not name the supplier.”

An incredible 46 million vehicles have been recalled so far this year, making it a record for the auto industry. All vehicle owners – not solely Toyota owners – are cautioned to keep up to date on their vehicle in light of increased recalls.
