More and more people have smartphones.

Once too expensive for personal use, these cell phones can send text messages, take pictures and surf the internet and transformed into a worldwide obsession for iPhones and BlackBerrys.  Unfortunately, our little obsession has caused a few too many distracted driving car accidents as too many drivers are texting.

Our car accident attorneys believe there is serious potential for auto accidents when drivers are on their iPhone or BlackBerry while driving.  In fact, driver distractions are the leading cause of most auto accidents.  Is a talking on the phone, receiving an email or going on the internet worth getting into a car accident that causes whiplash, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries or even wrongful death?

Sales of BlackBerrys, iPhones and other smartphone models are rising smartly and are projected to increase 25 percent this year.  A projected increase in sales will lead to an increase in car accidents from distracted driving as driving is a skill that requires your full attention to safely control your car.

Smartphones are not as expensive as they were in the past, but they’re certainly not cheap.  Even with discounts from wireless carriers, smartphones usually cost $100 to $300.  Like smartphones, car accidents too are not cheap; they can lead to high medical bills if you or a loved one suffer a personal injury.

Our auto accident attorneys believe that new cell phones are a good thing but should not be used when driving as this will cause distracted driving.  We urge all car drivers to practice safe driving habits, and focus on the road rather than a cell phone.

Is talking on the phone more important to you than getting in a car accident that may cause a loved one or you personal injury, or even wrongful death?
