These days, many people can watch videos right on their cellphones.  But, unfortunately those same people decide to watch videos on their cellphones while driving which causes them to become distracted and cause car accidents.

One new media player, Sling Media Mobile Player, by Sling Media, launched for the iPhone.  The service lets people send TV shows, DVR recordings and other media to their phones.  For between $200 and $300, users get a device called a Slingbox, which connects to a cable or satellite set-top box, as well as software for the phone. As car accident lawyers, we know that many drivers do not realize that distracted driving is one of the top causes of car accidents as driving is a skill that requires your full attention at all times.

Driver distractions are the leading cause of most auto accidents.  If you take your eyes off the road for just a few seconds you could cause a car accident that injures you and many others.  New technologies are great if you are sitting at a park taking in the fresh air, but not so much when you are driving to the park.

In May of 2009, TV.com launched a cellphone video-watching service, which people can access by downloading free software to their mobile phone.  Using the software, consumers can play full episodes of TV series such as “Desperate Housewives” and “Star Trek.”

But with this new technology easily accessible at any time, are people more likely to use this application while driving?  If you are stuck in traffic, could you be inclined to pick up the phone and watch a program right then and there to avoid being bored, which would take attention off the road and perhaps result in a rear-end car accident.

Some would argue this is just as dangerous as driving drunk because you do not have control over the vehicle.

As car accident lawyers, we would really like to ask the public driving community out there, is it not worth the effort to make a few changes and save the thousands of lives that are killed in fatal car accidents due to driver distractions?
