A 47-year-old man from Clairemont (in San Diego) was killed in a fatal car accident early on Sunday while pulling out of an apartment complex driveway.
As Yun Taek Park was coming out of the complex parking lot on the 4400 block of Clairemont Drive, his Acura sedan was slammed by a Nissan sport-utility vehicle at about 2:20 a.m. The driver of the sport-utility vehicle, who hasn’t been identified yet, was allegedly drunk while he was behind the wheel.
Our car accident lawyers continue to stress how dangerous it is to drive drunk. Drinking and driving doesn’t affect just the irresponsible driver, but it can be extremely dangerous to other drivers on the road and their passengers. Drinking can affect a driver’s ability to drive for many reasons. Drinking clouds your thinking and can hinder your focus. If you’re drunk behind the wheel, there is a possibility of dozing off or not paying attention to the road. That one moment is all it takes to cause a fatal car accident.
Park was visiting relatives with his wife when the automobile accident happened. Park suffered a traumatic brain injury and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Another female passenger in serious condition was taken to a hospital and is still not identified by authorities.
There are many organizations – like Alcoholics Anonymous and Mothers Against Drunk Driving – that have resources to prevent DUI accidents. Still, with all of the warnings, why do people still act irresponsibly by getting behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol? Our car accident attorneys know that preventing drunk-driving accidents is as easy as just calling a cab if you’ve been drinking.
Which would you prefer: $10-20 for a cab or $10,000-20,000 and jailtime for being involved in a DUI car accident?
