The North County Times reported that an Escondido high school student died early as a result of an auto accident at an Escondido intersection in the evening of May 18, 2010.

Authorities say that ten days before graduation, an Escondido High School senior was killed in an auto accident after he lost control of his car and hit a utility pole.  The student’s name hasn’t been released to the public at the time of this article’s release.

At about 6 p.m., the driver of the white Pontiac coupe was going north on North Broadway and North Avenue when he lost control of the car causing an auto accident while making a potentially dangerous right turn onto North Avenue and slid across the road.

The driver’s side door slammed into the pole and lost consciousness.

When Escondido police arrived at the auto accident, some off-duty firefighters were already on the scene after they stopped to perform CPR on the unconscious teenager.  The student was later taken to Palomar Medical Center where he was pronounced dead about 15 minutes after the auto accident.

Witness reports indicate speeding and running a stop sign could have played a role in the auto accident, but Escondido Police are asking other witnesses who might have been at the scene or saw the driver before the crash to call Officer Tom Venable at (760) 801-3018.
