A head-on car accident caused the wrongful death of a woman driving on Route 67 near Johnson Lake Road on January 26.  The woman, whose name hasn’t been released, was driving a Chevrolet van when she collided with Oldsmobile on the highway north of Lakeside at about 2:30 p.m.

The driver of the Oldsmobile, 51-year-old John Hallaway from Las Vegas, veered into the southbound lane while going north for about a quarter of a mile.  Other drivers managed to avoid the Oldsmobile, but the van was hit and came to a stop at an embankment on the west side of the highway.

Hallaway told medics that he didn’t remember what happened, and he thought he may have fallen asleep.  The cause of the car accident is under investigation, but no evidence of drugs or alcohol were found, but our car accident lawyers know that driving without enough rest is equally dangerous.  Drowsy driving can cause you to drift off the road, which could lead to a head-on car accident — the most deadly kind of car crash.

Could this car accident have been caused by a driver pulling an “all nighter” in Vegas?  Maybe.  If you’re planning a long drive, make sure you get enough sleep to get you through your trip.  A couple of dollars spent on a Motel 6 bed pales in comparison to a couple thousand dollars spent on medical bills while staying on a hospital bed after a car accident.

According to the California Highway Patrol, State Route 67 has seen high numbers of fatal car accidents.  Because of the frequent car accident this highway has become known for recently, Route 67 has been deemed a designated DUI safety corridor.  These highways are patrolled a little heavier by the CHP to stop car accidents before they start.

The woman driving the van died on the scene, and Hallaway was taken to a trauma center by helicopter where he was diagnosed with several major injuries.

When it comes to driving, our car accident lawyers know that you need to be aware of not just what you’re doing but what other drivers are doing as well.  No matter how well you’re driving, you can’t account for another driver’s mistakes.
