New stem cell research conducted by a Japanese university and an American biotechnology group gives hope to people with injured spinal cords as a result of a car accident or other personal injury.

Our personal injury attorneys believe the creation of new treatments that benefit people who linger from serious injury as a result of a car accident or other personal injury.  It should be noted, however, that any new treatment should be tested to its full extent before using it on the public.

The new stem cell research raises optimism for people who suffer from long-term effects of car crashes and other personal injuries.  People with long-lasting spinal cord injuries or permanent conditions like paraplegia and quadriplegia are looking forward to the possibility to an end to their condition.

Kyoto University in Japan and the San Francisco-based iZumi Bio Inc. have discovered a new technique called cellular reprogramming.  The technique returns human cells to their younger counterparts.

A long-term hope is that fresh cells created this way can be transplanted into patients for lingering injuries from car crashes and other relevant treatments.  In the short-term, it may allow experimental drugs to be tested on newly created cells, possibly speeding up the drug-discovery process.

“I think that the incredible excitement over this new collaboration [between Kyoto University and iZumi] shouldn’t be used as an argument against other kinds of research, as long as it’s pursued ethically and along prescribed guidelines,” said former Vice President Al Gore.

Treating patients who suffer from lasting injuries from personal injury would benefit greatly from this new treatment, but rapidly speeding up the drug-discovery process could prove even more hazardous than an initial car crash and could lead to medical malpractice or pharmaceutical malpractice.
