A 23-year-old man was arrested Sunday after the wrongful death of former “American Idol” contestant Alexis Cohen, who was struck by a car in New Jersey.

Cohen’s body was found on a street and an autopsy indicated that she had suffered traumatic brain injuries and other multiple injuries, including to her abdomen and chest.

Ex-American Idol contestant Alexis Cohen was struck by a car and killed in a hit-and-run accident.

As pedestrian accident attorneys, we know that over 60,000 people are killed and 100,000 are injured in pedestrian accidents in the United States each year.  Car, truck, taxicab and motorcycle drivers are usually to blame for pedestrian wrongful deaths, but increasingly, it is distracted drivers and drunk drivers that are among the top causes of pedestrian accidents.

Cohen originally auditioned in Philadelphia for the popular Fox singing competition in August 2007 – the episode was aired in January 2008.  She tried out again the following year during the show’s eighth season.

The driver of the car that hit Cohen, Daniel Bark, was drinking and driving when he struck Cohen with his car.  He was arrested Sunday evening and faces charges of aggravated manslaughter, drunken driving, death by auto, eluding and leaving the scene of Saturday’s fatal pedestrian accident.

Cohen’s mother, Mindy Dallow, has said her daughter was walking to get something to eat when she was struck by Bark.

As pedestrian accident lawyers, we believe that this fatal accident could have been avoided if Mr. Bark had not allegedly drank and drive.  If you or a loved one are injured in a pedestrian accident, hiring an experienced pedestrian accident attorney may help you recoup money for lost wages or high medical bills.
