According to WWL-TV, a New Orleans’ CBS affiliate, New York Giants rookie defensive back Chad Jones got into a car accident in between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. on June 25, 2010. Jones was listed in critical condition and in surgery at 10:15 a.m.
The rookie from Louisiana State University (LSU) suffered a broken left leg and had nerves and arteries exposed. Alfred Jones, Chad’s father, told a local radio station — WWL-AM 870 — that his son was hurt, but when he was taken to the emergency room following the car accident, Jones was alert for paramedics.
A spokesman for the New York Giants said the team has seen reports and is in the process of gathering information on the car accident and the complete extent of Jones’ personal injuries. Jones recently signed a contract with the Giants after being taken in the third round of the 2010 National Football League Draft.
As a freshman in 2007, Chad Jones helped the LSU Tigers win a national championship in football. Jones, 6’2″, is also an outfielder and pitcher drafted by the Houston Astros in the 13th round out of high school. He is one of two players in NCAA history to win a BCS football championship and a College World Series title.
