The legal woes continue for New York Giants suspended wide receiver Plaxico Burress.
Already facing charges stemming from accidentally shooting himself in the leg in a Manhattan nightclub, the Pro Bowl receiver must now respond to allegations from Miami-native Alise Smith whom Burress rear-ended in a May 16, 2008 car accident on the Florida Turnpike in Tamarac.
Our automobile accident attorneys know even the smallest of car accidents can lead to the most serious of injuries. When this happens, you are probably asking yourself questions about your health, your recovery, and who will help you pay your medical bills.
The 27-year old Smith claims that the automobile accident left her with whiplash injuries and seeks $15,000 for medical bills, lost wages and property damage to her car.
“Ms. Smith, who was wearing a seat belt, was rear-ended by Mr. Burress, who failed to maintain a safe braking distance, maintain a proper lookout or to exercise reasonable care,” said Gregory Dell, Smith’s attorney. “All of this was the cause of the accident and Ms. Smith’s resulting injuries.”
The list of court dates is only growing for this star-crossed nine-year NFL veteran, who scored the winning touchdown in the Giants’ 17-14 upset of the undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Burress also let his car insurance policy lapse three days before his car accident with Smith.
Sounds like a man that cannot stop shooting himself in the foot — or the leg.
