Motorcycle accidents are often the most tragic of accidents as motorcyclists are more apt to suffer significant injuries and even a wrongful death when involved in an accident.
Our Ramona accident lawyers know that motorcycle crashes can cause the most amount of pain and suffering as motorcyclists often suffer significant personal injury and even wrongful death when involved in a motorcycle accident.
Like any other accident, a motorcycle accident can happen at any time. Unfortunately, motorcycles lack most of the safety features that cars provide, and because of that, motorcycle accidents often lead to catastrophic injury (traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries or wrongful death).
Unfortunately, that was the case in recent San Diego motorcycle accident news when an unlicensed driver made a U-turn in front of a motorcyclist in Ramona triggering a fatal motorcycle accident that killed the rider. The motorcyclist was identified as 46-year-old Ramona-resident Mark Taylor.
Every year, there are thousands of motorcycle accidents that cause personal injury or wrongful death. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports there were over 4,000 motorcycle accident wrongful deaths in the United States in 2004, and 75 percent involve another car. The most common cause of motorcycle crashes is the other driver’s failure to see the motorcyclist. In fact, about two-thirds of all motorcycle accidents are the other driver’s fault.
In this case, an improper turn led to the fatal motorcycle accident when the unlicensed 28-year-old woman was driving westbound on Hanson Lane. When she stopped and made a U-turn, she didn’t see the motorcycle which was also traveling westbound. The driver crossed in front of the motorcyclist’s path and the rider struck the driver’s side of the car. The motorcyclist suffered major injuries and died at the site of the crash.
