Jose Barajas, 30, drove drunk and ran over his two-year-old son, Antonio, in a car accident while attempting to back his car out of the driveway during a Super Bowl party on February 1, 2009. The toddler was in critical condition and flown to Children’s Hospital Central California in Madera.
Our drunk-driving accident attorneys want to express that you should never, EVER, drink and drive, even if you are merely backing your car out of the driveway and parking it on the street. Unfortunately, this Riverbank found that out in the worst possible way, perhaps causing physical disabilities in his child forever.
Antonio is expected to survive this pedestrian accident. His mother said that he “hears everything,” but that the doctors are keeping him sedated “so he doesn’t move.”
“He wants to move,” the mother said, “but they don’t want him to move his head at all.”
Barajas was not arrested after the accident, amidst all the commotion to get his son medical help, but he could still be charged with driving under the influence (DUI), officials said. Regardless, he has learned first-hand the effects of a drunk-driving accident, even if it was just to make room in his driveway. It is a shame, too, since there are so many ways to combat and prevent DUI accidents from occurring.
Our drunk-driving accident attorneys know that alcohol and drugs behind the wheel causes way too many car accidents and is completely preventable. This man got behind the wheel for the shortest drive of his life, and it ended as the worst driving experience of his life.
Please, do not make the same mistake as this man not just with your own family or with anyone.
