A Wisconsin family, whose daughter suffered personal injuries during a spleen removal surgery, will receive more than $17 million from their medical malpractice lawsuit for personal injury and future medical or lifetime medical care.
Our firm’s San Diego personal injury lawyers know how important it is for injured persons to receive the best medical treatment when they are being treated for personal injuries, but a lot of times, you may be confused as to how to get the right treatment from the right doctor. Do you know how to find a licensed doctor? Our medical treatment resource page can answer that question and a lot more.
In June 2007 Shelbey Bomkamp, an eight year old, had her spleen removed at St. Mary’s Hospital by Dr. Leonard Go. The Bomkamp family’s medical malpractice lawsuit claimed that Dr. Go used an unfamiliar blender-like device to perform a surgical procedure, ultimately causing internal bleeding and a brain injury. When medical malpractice happens, it usually increases the amount of pain and suffering in an injured person as the level of severity of their personal injury goes up.
Imagine, for a moment, that you were in an automobile accident where you suffered a whiplash injury and other spinal cord injuries. But due to medical negligence on the part of your doctor, your whiplash injury is misdiagnosed and the treatment of your spinal cord injury causes paralysis.
Doctors who are guilt of medical negligence should be held at fault if injured persons under their care experience a worsening of personal injuries or wrongful death. Since Dr. Go’s medical negligence occurred, Shelbey Bomkamp has been in constant pain and suffering. She cannot speak, uses a feeding tube and requires around-the-clock care.
The $17.3 million settlement—the largest ever awarded in Dane County—will be paid by Wisconsin’s medical malpractice fund.
We, as San Diego personal injury lawyers, believe that personal injuries become worse when physicians are negligent on the job and it cause medical malpractice.
