Personal Injury Attorneys & Car Accident Lawyers San Diego's Most Trusted Personal Injury Law Firm since 1992

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you are probably wondering what to get your sweetheart.  If our San Diego law firm could make a suggestion it would be to avoid Target’s “Message Bears”, which were recalled due to large amounts of lead have been discovered in the stuffed animals.

Our San Diego personal injury attorneys are always concerned about product liability when it comes to goods which are not properly monitored by government officials could bring about a series of children’s injuries, in cases of dangerous toys, like these items.  So far, no serious injuries or wrongful deaths have been reported in conjunction to the Valentine’s Day bears.

California’s Attorney General Jerry Brown has outlined a letter that the “Message Bears” had levels of lead that violated federal law, prompting Target Corp. to recall all of the Valentine’s Day gifts which could cause serious personal injuries.  The stuffed animals, manufactured in China, come in two varities:

  1. A pink bear that has inflated letters reading “XOXO” along the chest area
  2. A brown stuffed bear with it’s letters displaying the message “I Love U“, with a heart representing love.

The inflatable letters on the bears contain 10 times the federal limit on lead.  Exposure to lead can poison the blood stream, cause infection and require extensive medical treatment from a hospital.

This is not the first time that a product from China has been put on shelves in American markets, so why does it keep happening?  What’s going on with the federal regulators who are supposed to be monitoring these types of items to insure products are safe to buy?  Chinese drywall has recently come underfire for containing asbestos and with so many of our goods manufactured in China, it is disconcerning that we do not know what is safe and what is not.

Being personal injury attorneys here in San Diego, our job is to make sure that serious accidents are prevented, as well as helping those hurt by dangerous products.  We ask you to actively participate in Target’s recall of the Valentine’s Day “Message Bears” and return them to a local store as soon as possible (the store has stated that it will accept returns even without receipt of purchase).
