Channel 10News in San Diego confirmed that a wrongful death lawsuit will be filed against Tiffany St. Ives.  St. Ives is accused of causing the death of 17-year-old Marlene Resendiz after the car accident in Escondido.

Weeks before her wedding in 2007, Resendiz was hit and killed while crossing the intersection of East Grand Avenue and North Rose Street.  Prosecutors believe that St. Ives attempted to cover up the car accident.

Hit-and-run car accidents lead to a lot of confusion when the assignment of blame is concerned.  When these auto accidents occur, a fight or flight process occurs in the driver, and some drivers don’t stay and talk to the authorities.  Hit-and-run drivers drive away.

Our car accident attorneys want to remind everyone that if you are a party in a car accident, it’s important to communicate with authorities so that all sides of the story come out.  This way, the authorities have all the information they need so they can figure out who is potentially to blame for the cause of the accident.

According to reports, St. Ives might have taken even greater steps after the accident happened.  Before being turned in by a friend, St. Ives allegedly cleaned her car with bleach, fixed it with parts from a junkyard and attempted to sell it in Mexico according to prosecutors.  The $75 million car accident lawsuit was filed against St. Ives and the farm animal shelter she works for because the family attorney for Resendiz believes St. Ives was on the job at the time of the car crash.

Resendiz’s attorney hopes that a precedent will be set as a result of this wrongful death lawsuit:

(The hit-and-run accident) was such a heartless act on so many levels.  The message that needs to be sent is if you commit a crime like this and go to great lengths to cover it up, you should spend the rest of your life paying back the family you’ve harmed so much.”

Our car accident lawyers in Escondido want to remind every driver on the road that if you get into a car crash with another car or a pedestrian, stay behind and accept whatever consequences that may or may not come to you.  It’s better than leaving questions for the authorities to figure out.
