Learn About Taijiquan
Taijiquan, known more commonly as Tai Chi Chuan (or just Tai Chi to most people in America) is a special form of martial arts that is practiced, despite many assumptions, as a way of improving one’s health. Originating from China, Taijiquan was believed to be created by Zhang Sanfeng, a sage who’s as mystical as he’s mythical. The five houses of classical Taijiquan are Chen, Sun, Wu, Wu/Hao, and Yang. Some modern forms are the Short 37 Form, the Beijing 24 Form, and the 42 Competition Form.
For the uninitiated, Taijiquan may not seem to be a martial art at all. It’s considered a “hard and soft martial art” which means it combines different “attack” aspects, and there are many different types of training forms in existence today. Some people learn it as a way to keep themselves healthy while others learn it as a way to deal with the pain from motorcycle accidents, or other injuries.
